Nice to meet you,

my name is Sarah, and I tell stories.

I’ve been telling stories since I was a little girl.

When I was around five or six years old, I used to tell long stories to my most loyal captive audience, my parents. Each and every time, I’d end my story in the same way:

“A Duck and a Rabbit.”

No one knew what it meant. But every time I told a story, instead of saying “The End” like a normal child, I ended with this strange phrase: “A Duck and a Rabbit.”

I got older and eventually outgrew my signature sign off, but I never stopped telling stories. I attempted to write my first book when I was ten years old. It was called “West Star,” and it was a stunning rip-off of Harry Potter, but the main character was a girl, and the story involved a star. My mother still tearfully reminds me of when I ripped up my burgeoning story and threw it into the trash in an adolescent rage. I believe one of her greatest regrets is not figuratively saving my debut novel from the flames, but in all honesty, it was a dead end. Don’t feel bad, Mom.

In high school I was known for telling stories, and I gleefully told the same ones over and over again because, in short, they tickled me pink. By the time my high school friends got tired of the same stories, I went to college, told the stories to new people, and subsequently lived new stories to tell another day.

But then something happened. For some reason, I stopped altogether. I stopped telling stories, and more importantly, I stopped believing I had any worthy stories to tell. Call it a severe case of imposter syndrome, or perhaps just a very long season of depression. In any case, I have spent the last few years rediscovering my voice and finding new stories to tell. And boy, do I have some stories to tell. I am, in fact, figuratively bursting at the seams with new stories. And I can’t wait to share them all with you.

Thank you for being here to follow along.

A Duck and a Rabbit.
